This application is about one of the most wonderful villages of Greece!

"Mesta" is found in the SW of Chios, 35 km long from the city, in the wider region of Mastihohoria (where is produced the mastic gum) and is the most distanced from the medieval villages, but also the most well - conserved. It has roughly 560 residents. Mesta is a medieval village, model of defensive architecture and unique in the Hellenic space. The houses built side by side without voids, leaving only two gate-entries in the interior of village, shaping a protective wall. Its streets are narrow and most of them covered by arcs, hanging above them, on which, residencies are built.
The entire village has been drawn and built as a labyrinth, in order to prevent the raiding parties of pirates to reach with ease in the centre of village, where its most important buildings are found. The church of “Megalos Taksiarhis” (imposing royal church), that dominates in the centre of village with traces from old murals, and the smaller church of “Palios Taksiarhis”, with its eminent wooden inside, exceptional sample of local traditional art
